Treat hair pieces in dogs: tips

A quick treatment by the veterinarian is important in parasites: hair pieces are not only annoying for the dog, but can permanently cause damage to the skin and hair of the animal. Also complications such as tapeworm infestation are not uncommon.

If you suspect the small crawlies, you should quickly visit a veterinarian to rid your pet of the unwanted fur dwellers. The treatment usually involves different steps.

Treatment of hair pieces at the vet

First of all, the veterinarian will carefully examine the small parasites that you have discovered in the dog's coat. He will differentiate whether it is lice, mites or hair pieces and to what extent the skin of the animal is already attacked by it, and then find the right treatment method.

Depending on the age and state of health of the animal, various preparations for the treatment can be used, which should make it uncomfortable for the hairless dog fur. Spot-on preparations, sprays or special dog shampoos are common. If scratches or inflammations have been caused by the itching during the infestation of the hair, these are usually also treated by a veterinarian. A worming cure is also sometimes given because tapeworms are often associated with parasitic infestation.

Permanent removal of parasites

Normally, the first treatment is followed by another, so that the larvae of the hair pieces can be eliminated and a renewed collection of the pests into the dog fur is prevented. The follow-up treatment is usually performed a few days after the first one.

It is also important that all animals that live in the household, be treated, otherwise the next Haarlingsplage is already approaching. At home, you should clean your dog's favorite places and blankets. Grooming and hygiene should be given special consideration in the aftermath of the infestation.
