The English Pointer is happiest in keeping as a hunting dog. His character, his urge to move, and his hunting instinct are the reasons why he absolutely needs a demanding employment and expert owners.
Perfect for the English Pointer is an attitude in which he has family connection and still in between may go hunting with his master. He is cuddly and loving and his ability to cooperate very well with his owners shows not only in use as a hunting dog, but also at home.
The attitude as a pure companion and family dog is difficult
Making this dog happy as a pure city, companion or family dog is not easy. Anyone who does not keep him for hunting purposes, has to take long, long walks with him every day and offer him through dog sports and a task varied employment. Even if that succeeds, however, it may be that the four-legged friend is not as balanced, calm, and easily educable as a hound. In addition, having his hunting instinct on the walk is something for connoisseurs and definitely not recommended for beginners.
Care and Health of the English Pointer
With his short coat the English Pointer needs little care - to take care of him once or twice a week with a soft brush should be enough. A healthy dog diet that matches his athletic life ensures that he is healthy, has good defenses and a nice, strong coat. As a disease susceptible of four-legged friends is not. Achieving a life of around 14 years is not uncommon among the pretty hunting companions.
