These were the most popular dog names in 2014

Anyone looking for a name for their future four-legged friend could find inspiration in the most popular dog names from 2014. Or maybe you are simply curious: Which names have the dog owners in Germany most often given to their darlings in the past year?

While expectant human parents like to give their offspring unique and unusual names, dog owners rely on the tried and tested. This resulted in an evaluation of the animal welfare organization TASSO eV, which presents the most popular dog names every year. As a basis for the evaluation of the year 2014 7.6 million registered animals served in the pet central register of Germany.

So dog ladies were named the most

At the top of the most popular dog names for bitches has changed in the past seven years, absolutely nothing, as Philip McCreight, director of TASSO eV, says: "Very interesting is that Luna has been the undisputed leader in female dog names for seven years now." And Emma and Bella have also been in second and third place for several years. While Amy, Kira, Lilly, Lucy, Paula and Nala alternate each year on the following ranks, in 2014 Mia was among the most popular dog names for the first time.

The most popular dog names of males

The list of the most popular dog names for males is similar to those of the ladies. At the top, however, there was a change: Rocky made it in 2014 for the first time in five years back to first place. Close on his heels is Sammy, who was last in 2012 at the top. In third, fourth, fifth and sixth place again Max, Sam, Balu and Lucky are found. The absolute newcomer in seventh place is Buddy, who even leaves Bruno, Charly and Paul behind.

For big dog breeds, as well as for small ones, there are definitely suitable names here - now your personal taste has to decide, whether you choose one of the most popular dog names from the past year or rather put on a very unusual name.
